Log from Your Phone: a Technician's Own Account on ReadyPedi

The shared tablet works for every technician at once, and it stays. A technician who would rather log from their own phone can: the owner adds their mobile number, the technician joins once with a code sent by text, and from then on the phone knows who they are. No password to type, no name to pick, and the chair they cleaned last time is already selected. This guide walks the four steps, then what logging looks like on the phone and what the owner sees.

What changes on the phone

On the shared tablet, every technician signs in with the shop code and the tech password, then picks their name before each entry. On their own phone, the account is the name: the screen says Logging as and their name, and there is no list to pick from.

The cleaning choices, the chair board and the day’s entries are the same on both, and so is the log they land in. If you are setting the shop up for the first time, the getting-started guide comes first; this one assumes the shop has a plan and tech names.

Step 1: The owner adds the technician’s mobile number

On Techs, each name has a Phone field and a License number field; both are optional. Add the number when you add the name, or tap Edit beside an existing name. It must be a mobile number that receives text messages, with its area code, like 512 555 0101. Once saved it shows masked, with only the last four digits, and the line reads Not linked yet until the technician has joined.

Only numbers on this list can join. That is the whole gate: a number you have not listed is never sent a code, so the list is also who may log for your shop from a phone.

At the bottom of Techs is the card Let techs log from their own phone, with the shop’s join link and a QR code for it. Tap Copy link and send it however the shop talks, by Zalo, Messenger or a text from your own phone, or print the code and stick it by the tablet. The link is the same for every technician and never changes, so sharing it once is enough.

ReadyPedi never texts the link itself. The one text in the whole flow is the code, and it goes only to a number on your list, only when that technician asks for it.

Step 3: The technician joins on their phone

The technician opens the link on their phone. The page names your shop, so they know they are in the right place, and asks for Your mobile number. They enter it and tap Text me a code. A six-digit code arrives by text; they type it and tap Verify. The page says You’re in with their name from your list, and the phone is now their account.

Two things the page does on purpose. After Text me a code it says the same thing whether or not the number is on the list, so nobody can use the page to find out who works at your shop; if no code arrives, the number to check is the one under Techs. And if the number is already joined at another shop, the page says so by name and asks Join here instead?; on yes, the phone logs for your shop from then on, and the records at the other shop stay as they were.

Step 4: Add it to the home screen

The join page ends with Add to home screen, which opens the install instructions for iPhone and Android. Installed, ReadyPedi opens like an app from its own icon and keeps working when the Wi-Fi drops, saving each tap until the connection returns. One thing to know: the installed app keeps its own sign-in, so the first time it opens it is signed out. The technician taps the join link again or asks for a code once more, and from then on it stays signed in.

Logging from the phone

The screen shows Logging as and the technician’s name, the chair board, the cleaning choices with Regular Cleaning already selected, and one button that names what it will do, for example Log Regular Cleaning · Chair 4. The chair is the one they logged last time, remembered on that phone, so the usual case is a single tap. A different chair is one tap on the board first. End of Day, Not Used and the Bi-Weekly add-on work exactly as on the tablet, and the choices mean what the getting-started guide says they mean.

The date and time are stamped by the system at the tap, never typed. With no connection the entry is saved on the phone and sent when the connection returns, with the time of the tap, and the screen says how many are waiting. Log out sits beside the Logging as line, for a technician who lends their phone or changes it.

What the owner sees

On Techs, the technician’s line changes from Not linked yet to Linked. On Logs, every row they logged from the phone carries a small Phone mark beside their name; hovering it says the row was logged from their own account, verified by the code. The inspection view shows the same mark. A row logged from the shared tablet carries no mark, and a row the owner logged under their own account, Auto-Fill included, carries Owner. That is the one difference: the record of how the app knew who it was. The printed TDLR form is unchanged, with the name in the Tech column whichever way the row was logged.

When a technician leaves, or changes phones

Archive their name on Techs, as before. For a technician who has joined, archiving also removes their phone account at once: the phone can no longer log for your shop, and the confirmation says so. Their old rows keep their name. If they come back, restore the name and have them join again with their number; the account is not kept.

A new phone needs no change on your side: the technician opens the join link on it and verifies with the same number. A lost phone that was still signed in is handled by archiving and restoring the name, which ends the old phone’s access, and then joining again on the new one. To change a number, archive the name, add it again with the new number, and have them join again; a linked number cannot be edited in place.

The number, and privacy

The number is kept for one purpose, sending the code, and it is shown to the owner only masked. It is one shop’s at a time. The code is sent through Twilio, the text messaging service named in our Privacy Policy, and no other text is ever sent to a technician’s number. The license number, if you enter it, is kept beside the name for the states whose forms print it; the Texas form does not.

Frequently asked questions

Does the shop still need the shared tech password?

Yes, if anyone logs from the shared tablet. A technician's phone account does not use it: they join with their number and a code, and the tech password never reaches their phone. A shop where every technician logs from their own phone can leave the tablet for the owner.

Can a technician use both the tablet and their phone?

Yes. On the tablet they pick their name as before; on their phone the name is already theirs. Both land in the same log. On the Logs page, the rows they logged from the phone carry a Phone mark and the rows from the tablet do not.

Does ReadyPedi text my technicians?

Only the code, and only when they ask for it on the join page. There are no reminders and no marketing texts to a technician's number, and the join link itself is never texted: you share it.

Can one number be on two shops' lists?

A number can be listed at more than one shop, but it logs for one shop at a time. When a technician joins a second shop, the join page says which shop the number is registered at and asks whether to move. Their old records stay with the old shop either way.

The code never arrived. What now?

The join page says the same thing whether or not the number is on the list, so first check the number under Techs, using Edit if it is wrong. The number must be a mobile that receives texts; a landline cannot. Then tap Send a new code. Codes are good for a few minutes.

Does a row logged from a phone look different on the printed form?

No. The printed form is TDLR's own, with the technician's name in the Tech column, whichever way it was logged. The Phone mark is on the screen only, on the Logs page and the inspection view.

This guide describes ReadyPedi as it works today; the buttons and messages are named as they appear in the app. The rule requirements are restated from 16 TAC §83.108 in plain language and are not legal advice; TDLR’s rules are the authority.
