ReadyPedi

California · Board of Barbering and Cosmetology · 16 CCR §§980.1–980.4

California requires a cleaning log for every pedicure chair, basin and tub. Log it in three taps.

Under 16 CCR §§980.1 to 980.4, every pedicure unit keeps its own log: the date, time and initials of each cleaning, after every client, at the end of the day and once a week. Techs log at the chair. ReadyPedi prints the Board's BBC 14.

Instructions

The California questions we're asked most.

  1. Does a pipe-less foot spa count?

Yes. Pipe-less units have their own section, §980.2, with the same three cleanings and the same log as a whirlpool. Set the chair as Pipe-less and it prints its own BBC 14.

  2. Do basins and disposable liners need a log?

Yes. A basin, tub or liner takes the after-client cleaning only (§980.3, §980.4), but each cleaning is still logged, on its own BBC 14. A liner is single use; the basin under it is scrubbed, rinsed and dried after each client.

  3. How long do I keep the log?

The rule names no period. It says the log is made available on request to a client or a Board representative. ReadyPedi keeps two years of history, and Inspection mode opens the last ninety days.

  4. Can End of Day and Weekly go on the same row?

No. The form says Check One. The weekly clean includes the end-of-day steps and then leaves the disinfectant in the unit at least six hours, so on that night the Weekly row stands in for End of Day, with only the Weekly box ticked.

  5. Initials or a full name?

The rule asks for the initials of the person who did the cleaning, and the BBC 14 has an Initials column. ReadyPedi prints the initials of the tech who logged the row, from your roster, and keeps the full name in the log.

  6. What if a foot spa is not in service?

A whirlpool or pipe-less foot spa that is not in use needs a notation on its log that it is not in service, and a Not in Service sign on the chair. Log a Not in Service row, and ReadyPedi prints the sign; log Back in Service when it returns.

  7. Is ReadyPedi part of the Board?

No. ReadyPedi is an independent product, not affiliated with or endorsed by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. It prints the Board's own BBC 14 from your log.
