Maine · Barbering and Cosmetology Licensing Program · 02-041 CMR Ch. 26, §26.270

Maine requires a record of every foot spa cleaning, kept one year. Log it in three taps.

Under 02-041 CMR Ch. 26, §26.280, every whirlpool foot spa and foot basin needs a record of the time and date of each cleaning, daily or bi-weekly, made at or near the time, kept one year from the last entry and presented to the Director on request. Techs log at the chair. ReadyPedi prints the Program's log.

Filling in a row

Three boxes. Check one box only.

Every row of the Program's log has the same three boxes, and the form says check one box only. Only these four rows belong on the log.

Instructions

The Maine questions we're asked most.

  1. Does a pipe-less foot spa count?

Yes. Maine defines a whirlpool foot spa as any basin using circulating water, self-contained or plumbed in, which is Texas's definition word for word, and a pipe-less unit circulates. Set the chair as Whirlpool.

  2. What about a basin, or a disposable liner?

A non-whirlpool basin takes the after-client cleaning only, and still logs it. A disposable liner sits inside a whirlpool foot spa with its portable jet, so the spa under it keeps its end-of-day and bi-weekly cleanings: set the chair as Liner and it offers all three.

  3. How long do I keep the record?

One year from the date of the last entry, presented to the Director on request. ReadyPedi keeps two years of history, and Inspection mode opens the last year in whole month sheets, the form's own unit.

  4. Can End of Day and Bi-Weekly go on the same row?

No. The form says check one box only. The bi-weekly soak follows the end-of-day steps and takes that night's row, with only the Bi-Weekly box ticked.

  5. The form's header says WEEKLY. Is the cleaning weekly or bi-weekly?

Every other week. The rule (§26.279) says bi-weekly and the form's box says Bi-Weekly; only the header line still reads WEEKLY. ReadyPedi follows the rule and the box, and reminds you every two weeks.

  6. What if a foot spa is out of service?

The record has to show the date it was removed from service, for any reason. Log a Removed from Service row, then Back in Service when it returns. The rule also removes from service any unit whose record is not kept, until it is cleaned and the record brought up to date.

  7. Is ReadyPedi part of the Program?

No. ReadyPedi is an independent product, not affiliated with or endorsed by Maine's Barbering and Cosmetology Licensing Program or the Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation. It prints the Program's own log from your record.
